Walking the Cinque Terre without a plan

10 February 2025 · 1 min read
Five villages, one backpack, and a studied refusal to consult a map.

The Cinque Terre does not need a plan. It is five villages strung along a single coastal path, and you go in one end and come out the other.

What it needs is a slower pace than the signage suggests — and a willingness to stop in the village nobody photographs, because that is always the one you'll remember.

We skipped the famous viewpoint in favour of a back street with a wine bar and three tables. It was the best decision we made all week.
